Neal Ardley believes his side were “well and truly beaten” by table toppers Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Second half goals from Josh Scowen and Sam Wood consigned AFC Wimbledon to defeat in Bucks, but the Dons never seemed to be in the game.

Ardley’s side failed to test Wycombe’s keeper during the game, and he had no complaints over his side’s defeat.

He said: “Wycombe are a good team and you have to try and worry about your own player’s performance levels.

“I’m sure Gareth (Ainsworth) will say that his team’s performance levels were on the money, but our performances were below that and we never really get a foothold in the game because of it.

Nosing to defeat: Ardley

“We never got our game going. We never got any width and our full backs and wide players never combined. We lost a lot of battles and lost a lot of second balls while they defended one end really well and ran hard at the other.

“I have no complaints, I think the best team won. I think they’re top of the league for a reason and we were well and truly beaten today.”

AFC Wimbledon’s next game is on Tuesday night against Plymouth and Ardley said that he would be looking for his players to bounce back from defeat.

He added: “You’re only as good as your last game we have a lot of work to do.

“I wouldn’t look at it and go ‘oh I cant see where our next win is going to come from,’ I look it and go ‘we were poor today’ and I’ve just said to the boys in there how we react is important.

“In this league its how you bounce back from your defeats and today top of the league gave us a really good skinning and we now have to focus on our next game and bounce back and make sure we play a lot better.”
