Neal Ardley has backed Matt Tubbs to end his barren spell in front of goal.

The AFC Wimbledon striker hasn’t scored in six games following a storming start to his Dons career.

However, Ardley, who is desperate to keep hold of the on-loan Bournemouth frontman, reckons Tubbs can hit the 20-goal mark.

He said: “Even though he’s had a little bit of a spell where he hasn’t scored, he still looks like he’s going to and I’m sure that he will turn around and he will be a 20-goal-a-season striker.”

Goal machine: Matt Tubbs netted nine times in his first 14 games

Ardley will check on his walking wounded in training this morning before making a decision on his squad to face Dagenham tomorrow.

The Kingsmeadow chief revealed some of his men are playing through the pain barrier after a hectic run of fixtures has stretched his squad to the limit.

He added: “We’ve got four games in 12 days. Some players are playing on painkillers at the moment, but what can you do? It’s hard to get any rest and recovery into them.”

Andy Frampton will definitely miss tomorrow's visit of the Daggers but could return to training as early as next week after scans revealed his injury is not as bad as first feared.
