John Terry says Diego Costa has the same unstoppable spirit that has made him a great for the Blues over the years.

Costa, playing through a hamstring injury all season and battered and bruised in a physical confrontation with Sportin Lisbon on Tuesday night, has not shirked all season – netting eight goals so far for the club.

And Terry is glowing in his praise for his new team mate.

Training mode: Costa runs out at Cobham

“With Diego, you didn't know (how he would adapt to the Premier League),” said Terry.

“We've seen it before – strikers take months and months. He's hit the ground running, and eight goals already is superb, great for us really.

“He's a good character, he's a great character. Without speaking a word of English he gets by, and gets on great with everyone.”

Goal-machine: Costa knows how to find the net

Asked about the physical challenges Costa faced against Sporting – at one stage he was hauled to the floor in a challenge which saw his assailant come off worst – Terry said: “He puts himself about, but he gets up.”

“He battles on, and plays with little niggles, and that's what you want. He's come to the Premier League to win.

“He made that clear to everyone in pre-season – he's come here to win trophies, an that's what he wants to do.”
