Ray Wilkins thinks Jose Mourinho needs to drop Diego Costa for this weekend’s crunch clash with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

Costa has failed to hit the heights of last season so far, spending more time in the headlines for a lack of discipline than his goalscoring, and he drew another blank in the midweek win over Dynamo Kiev.

That made it five games without the Spanish international finding the net and four of those performances have resulted in the Blues failing to secure victories.

Pressure has been building on Mourinho, although the 2-1 win over Kiev has quelled rumours of the sack , and he is due to serve a one-game stadium ban on Saturday against the Potters.

He needs his strikers to find some form having relied on Willian to provide the fireworks on Wednesday night and former Blues coach Wilkins doesn’t think Costa is the answer tomorrow.

Wilkins told talkSPORT: "He's not a goal threat at the moment.

"Jose got the hump with him [against Kiev] because there was a ball played in from the right side and he didn't get across the near post and he went berserk at him because he is not working hard enough to get into scoring positions.

“He was loose. I think it's time to leave him out and bring Loic Remy in. Remy will always score a goal."

Costa has scored three times in 16 appearances this season, which is a far cry from the explosive shooting which saw him bang in 20 strikes to help Chelsea pick up the Premier League crown last term.
