Toumani Diagouraga reckons Brentford have shown great character to clinch promotion following last season's play-off misery.

The Bees missed the chance to go up automatically on the final day of the campaign before eventually losing to Yeovil at Wembley.

But Mark Warburton's men banished those memories to finally secure a spot in the Championship this time around with three games to spare.

“If you look at the teams that were in the play-offs last year, they’re all having a bad season," said Diagouraga. "We came back strongly and have done it this time.

“We were that close last year so to put it to bed with three games to go it’s very good. The hurt of last season makes the feeling all the more sweeter.

“It’s right at the top of my achievements in football. We’ve been close on a couple of occasions. To finally do it I’m very happy.”
