QPR striker Dexter Blackstock has agreed a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

Blackstock, 22, has been in talks with the club for some time and both parties have been confident he would put pen to paper.

But Rangers’ longstanding bid to sign Crystal Palace’s Ben Watson has run into trouble after the midfielder began to attract serious interest from Premier League clubs.

Watson has been holding out for a move to the top flight but no managers made a firm move to sign him despite watching him a number of times and several clubs being linked with the player.

That left Rangers in pole position but Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate this week tabled a bid for Watson, while Fulham have also considered making an offer.
