QPR got that Groundhog Day feeling when they conceded the only goal of the game in the second half.

Derby did to Rs what Brentford did on Friday night when Andre Weimann netted on 51 minutes - only five minutes ahead of the Bees winner four days ago.

In truth, Hoops were poor going forward, and there was a telling hoof from Matt Phillips right at the death that was nearer to Row Z than the net.

It got worse when James Perch was sent off for a second yellow card a minute from the end of normal time for a rash tackle.

Red: James Perch (L)

But then, the attacks had all but fizzled out - a lot like the Griffin Park derby when they held a decent side for the first half only to concede early in the second period.

The plus, if there was one, saw Charlie Austin survive 90 minutes for the first time in six weeks.

Early on it looked as if Rs were in business. A dangerous cross from Paul Konchesky caused all kinds of mayhem in the Derby box.

Phillips crossed from the other wing saw Austin try his luck, but with no end product. Phillips himself got a glancing header that also drifted wide.

At the other end, a series of Derby centres whizzed across the Rs goalmouth - all without a vital touch in an end to end contest played on a slick surface that had the home crowd oohing and aahing.

The returning Yun Suk-Young then got asked for his name in a handbags fracas with Jeff Christie who also got added to referee Keith Stroud's notebook.

Second-half sub: Tyler Blackwood (R)

Charlie Austin took out Cyrus Christie shortly after the restart and also earned a yellow. But the colour was red on away faces when Weimann darted forward to smash a curling shot with the outside of his left foot beyond Rob Green.

Green did much better when he denied Jacob Butterfield and then watched £6m Bradley Johnson blaze over.

But Derby were worthy winners - and only the most biased Rs fan could say otherwise.
