Brentford defender Andreas Bjelland said ahead of Denmark's two World Cup qualifying fixtures that they needed a maximum six points to keep their dreams of reaching Russia alive and that is what they got.

They claimed a thumping 4-0 win over current Group F leaders Poland on Friday thanks to goals from Thomas Delaney, Andreas Cornelius, Nicolai Jorgensen and Christian Eriksen.

And they followed it up with a 4-1 win over Armenia on Tuesday night with Delaney bagging a hat-trick and Eriksen adding another as they came from a goal down to triumph. Bjelland and Bees team-mate Henrik Dalsgaard started both games for their country.

The two wins still leave Denmark third in the group and they face a crunch game at second place side Montenegro, who beat them 1-0 in Copenhagen earlier in qualifying, on October 5.

Their final game is at home to already eliminated Romania, who they drew 0-0 with earlier in qualifying.

Montenegro, on the other hand, face Poland in the final qualifier meaning two more wins could lead to automatic qualification.
