Clint Dempsey has ruled out a loan move from Fulham in the January transfer window - but admits he faces an uncertain future.

The American midfielder has been reduced to a cameo role this season, even though he did swoop to claim The Whites first away point of the season 11 days ago at Portsmouth.

Dempsey was the record signing from the American MLS League when he linked forces with Fulham in January 2007 for £2million - but the 25-year-old is only too aware his contract runs out in July 2010.

If Fulham are to recoup any money for him, it will probably be next summer.

"It is what it is," said Dempsey, "But I'm not going to go on loan. I have to try to make the most of the time that I play.

"I'm just trying to prove to him that I deserve to be out there." Fulham find themselves in 16th in the league table after 10 games and face a rejuvenated Newcastle side at St. James' Park on Sunday.

The midfielder has come on as a substitute in the last four games and has shown signs of last season's form, including the late equaliser at Fratton Park.

But the American admits he can not wait around forever under coach Roy Hodgson. "After this season I have a year left," he added. "Whether a team comes in and wants to get me out, we'll see."
