Summer signing Jack Smith is a couple of week’s away from a return but AFC Wimbledon winger George Francomb will make the squad for this weekend’s clash with Accrington Stanley.

Former Millwall full-back Smith was stretchered off early on during last month’s 3-1 loss at Milton Keynes in the Capital One Cup and Callum Kennedy has been filling the void on the left side of defence.

That looks set to continue for at least two more weeks as the new arrival is only just beginning to start training and will need to build up his fitness before being considered for a recall by manager Neal Ardley.

Decision to make: Andy Frampton is closing in on a comeback

The Dons boss did however report some better news ahead of the trip to Lancashire as Francomb, who has been ruled out of the last three fixtures with a toe problem, is set to make his comeback at the Crown Ground. The club will make a late call on Andy Frampton.

“George has trained all week so that is not an issue. I don’t know about Andy [Frampton] and we have a decision to make about whether it is too soon,” Ardley told Dons Player.

“It’s something that we will discuss with Andy, the coaching staff and our medical team. It’s a long season and we have to make sure that he is fit and well first.

Ready to return: George Francomb will be back in the squad this weekend

“Jack is starting to do some change of direction stuff so hopefully he will have a couple more weeks of building his fitness up and then perhaps we can have him back.”

Wimbledon lie mid-table in League two ahead of this weekend's game while Accy have made a poor start to the campaign.
