QPR defender Matt Connolly should be back in action at the beginning of next month.

The former Arsenal youngster has been sidelined for almost two months with an ankle injury, but has stepped up his recovery at the club's Harlington training ground.

Connolly won't be ready for Saturday's trip to Norwich City, but could be fit to face West Brom the following week.

However boss Neil Warnock insists he won't rush the 24-year-old back.

"Matt Connolly is happier in himself for the first time in a long while,” said Warnock.

“He's had a lot of problems, but we insisted he took his time to get fit. He's pain free now and pushing for the next couple of weeks.

"But we never planned to do anything but wait until he was totally happy. He comes back too soon, and what happens? He does a calf or a hamstring and that's the last thing we want."
