HARROW Borough may have ended the season in defeat but Jamie Lawrence was certainly feeling like a winner.

The player-coach made his first appearance in more than five months against Horsham on Saturday, after battling back from the MRSA superbug which left him fearing for his right leg.

He replaced the injured Gary Noel on 75 minutes but could not prevent his side slipping to defeat.

The 38-year-old underwent surgery on a deep cut to his right knee, sustained while playing for Harrow last December.

Lawrence, who played for Bradford City in the Premiership, said complications arose after discovering medical staff had left two of six stitches in his knee.

The former Jamaica international described it as the 'lowest of the low' and vowed to sue an NHS Trust and a local doctor's surgery.

Harrow manager David Howell said: "I decided to give Jamie a little bit of a run as he has had a horrible season since December.

"It was nice to give him a taste of the action again."
