Dean Smith is excited to have Jota back in the ranks at Brentford after the Bees recalled him from Eibar.

The west Londoners announced the popular Spaniard was returning to Griffin Park in the January transfer window after the left footed wizard dropped down the pecking order at the Spanish club.

And Smith knows how delighted the supporters will be to see Jota running down the wing once again with the head coach revealing that the winger was looking forward to a return.

He said: “We know the supporters love him and there's a mutual affection there. I spoke to him three or four weeks ago and he's looking forward to it.

“We're waiting for his GPS stats to come back from Eibar. We're excited to have him back from his first spell with us.”

Jota

Smith also confirmed that Jota had sorted his personal issues and made first contact with Brentford about a return.

The head coach added: “I knew it would give the fans a lift and he wasn't playing over in Eibar.

“He's sorted his personal problems out but the big thing for me was he expressed a desire to come back.

“He phoned me and told me he wanted to come back and I was only too happy to accept it.”

An old saying is 'never go back' but Smith believes that Jota will let his football do the talking.

He explained: “I worked with him for a month and he's a humble young man and he's a very talented footballer and he'll let his football do the talking.”
