Dean Smith believes that if Brentford repeat their performance in the 4-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest they will win more games than they lose.

The Bees had led through John Egan but Andreas Bouchalakis fired home an equaliser from 25 yards after the home side failed to clear from a free kick.

And another defensive lapse allowed Tendayi Doukara in on goal but his shot hit the post and rebounded to Daryl Murphy who couldn't fail to score just before the break.

Bouchalakis fired in another fine long-range strike after Brentford failed to close him down before Andreas Bjelland opened his account with a header.

Kieran Dowell made it 4-2 before Neal Maupay bagged his first competitive Bees goal as a stoppage time consolation but the Bees are pointless after two games.

John Egan heads Brentford in front

“It’s not the start to the campaign I wanted in terms of results and points,” he admitted.

“We wanted to hit the ground running results-wise and we haven’t got there, but if we play like that we’ll certainly win more games than we lose.

“They scored a wonder goal into the top corner and the last five minutes of the first half and the first few minutes of the second half changed the game.

“It’s seems a bit surreal. They scored two wonder goals and then a deflected goal.

Andreas Bjelland scores

“In the first 40 minutes I was really pleased with the players. I was really pleased with what I saw in the first half.”

Harlee Dean was an unused substitute and Dean Smith felt that was because John Egan and Andreas Bjelland didn't deserve to lose their places.

“Harlee played on Tuesday and I thought he did okay. I didn’t think the two centre-halves last week deserved to be left out,” he added.

“Harlee didn’t do enough for me to start him in the game and the other two didn’t deserve not to start.”
