Dean Smith knows that it will be a much harder task for Brentford's players and fans to name their player of the season.

Last year, Alan Judge won the awards in a landslide vote with his all action displays leading him to be named as one of the standout players in the division.

The Irishman will be unable to retain his title as he is still absent after sustaining a broken leg last April after a horrific challenge from Ipswich's Luke Hyam.

This time around, the Bees have not had a talismanic player for the majority of the campaign with several players producing strong consistent performances.

And that means the decision on which player to vote for will be a much harder task.

Smith said: “I think last year, Judgey's performances getting him in the Championship team of the season it was always going to be although there was an argument for David Button.

“This season has been more of a team effort. We were a little reliant on Scott Hogan earlier in the season.

“I think since Scott's move you can see more of a team effort, with the goals. Jota has been fantastic since he came back.

“Sergi has been really bright. Daniel Bentley has made 12-13 clean sheets. John Egan started the season well and Harlee Dean has been consistent. Ryan Woods started the season well as well.”
