Dean Smith has been pleased with what the Brentford B players have been doing in recent weeks and a number of them have been training with the first team.

The Bees head coach has no qualms with giving young players first team chances if they prove themselves worthy, such as with Tom Field.

And he has been impressed by what he has seen at the club's Jersey Road training complex and Smith refused to rule out promoting a number of them to the first team.

He said: “They're doing well. Jan (Holldack) has been training with us constantly. We have two or three of the B team players training regularly.

“They've all been doing well – Zain Westbrook, Manny Onariase, Chris Mepham, James Ferry. It's not out of the question for me to upgrade them to the bench or even play them.”

Those players may be in line for a role in the squad when Brentford face Eastleigh in the FA Cup on January 7 with the Bees renowned for changing their side for cup matches.
