Dean Smith has been delighted with the way Yoann Barbet has performed since coming into the side as a centre back at Burton.

The Frenchman was predominantly used as a left back in the first half of the season after injuries to Tom Field, Callum Elder with summer signing Rico Henry needing shoulder surgery.

Since coming into the side, the Bees have won three of their last four and he has impressed alongside Harlee Dean, with his natural left foot adding balance to a Brentford back line that has been leaky for large parts of the campaign.

Smith said: “They’ve done really well. Look at Yoann Barbet, he’s not had many minutes at centre half this season such has been the form of Andreas, Harlee and John Egan and he’s come in the team and I think won three out of four and performed really well.”

Konstantin Kerschbaumer

Konstantin Kerschbaumer had a difficult start to the season but has been more of a regular in recent games and Smith has been impressed with the Austrian's performances in the middle of the pitch.

He added: “Likewise Kersch has come into the team and had a spell. I’ve changed it around in there to give people a rest.

“I rested him against Leeds United and played Nico Yennaris and then Kersch came back in there on Saturday.”

Brentford have improved since the January transfer window with Florian Jozefzoon, Sergi Canos and Jota all providing attacking strength down the wing.

Smith said: “What I’ve got is options throughout the team at the moment.

“I’ve got Flo waiting on the wings ready for Jota or Sergi not to play to their normal standards, and he can come in. That’s what you need to be a consistent, winning team.”
