Dean Smith praised his Brentford side's "clear heads" as they cruised to their first double over west London rivals QPR since 1965.

The Bees were by far the superior side over their west London foes and Jota's brace, which sandwiched a Joel Lynch consolation, and Yoann Barbet's strike outlining their quality.

Rs boss Ian Holloway predicted Brentford would be relegated at the start of the season and said the Bees had regressed since the departure of Mark Warburton.

But current boss Dean Smith said: "We know what we are about and we get our heads down and get on with our job. People will always have opinions but all we can do is keep working hard. Results like this mean we can go about our jobs with smiles on our faces."

He added: "It was a comfortable and fully deserved win without us ever really getting near our usual levels," he said.

"I told them to have clarity about what they do, to have clear heads and no ill-discipline and not to let emotion get involved in the game. They did that. We deserved to win but we weren't perhaps as clinical as we have been."

The Brentford boss asked Peter Gilham, player liaison manager and the longest-serving matchday announcer in the country, to give the post-match debrief: "I wanted the boys to know what this result means to the fans, so he was the best man for the job."
