Dean Smith has insisted that there has been no change regarding the future of former Brentford captain Harlee Dean.

The defender, who is out of contract next summer, has yet to agree a deal and, it is because of this, Smith has decided to make others his captain.

However, the Bees have not yet received any formal offers for the player, with Bristol City boss Lee Johnson appearing to rule out a move.

Smith said: “There's no contract at the moment. He's not signed a new deal with the club but we've not had any offers or bids for him. Harlee and myself have a really good relationship.

“He understands my reasons for taking the armband off him and he showed by his performance how committed he is to the club.”

The transfer window closes in just over two weeks and the EFL will be having talks about closing the window before the season starts.

When asked for his thoughts, Smith replied: “It still doesn't change it in January. You've still got to have the January window but maybe one is better than two.”
