Harlee Dean has credited Dean Smith for the way he has been playing for Brentford in recent weeks.
The Bees skipper drew comparisons to legendary German defender Franz Beckenbauer, especially in the way he was carrying the ball out of defence.
Dean has previously put his good form down to confidence and stressed that he feels it stems from the head coach.
He said: “It breeds from the manager. I feel in a real good place right now. I'm going to keep doing it and I don't want to season to finish to be honest.”
Smith has come in for plenty of criticism this season when things have gone against the Bees but, when results have been good, praise has been harder to come by.
But Dean knows how important the Brentford head coach has been to the club and believes he gives the squad confidence in their abilities.
The captain added: He's been really good. We've got a young bunch. He gives everyone confidence.
“Everything is what we can do better and we're trying to do that on and off the pitch and it's been shown out there (in recent home games).”
Brentford must now try and use the performance levels set against Derby when they travel to Barnsley, a side, like the Bees, who will be in next season's Championship.
“Barnsley are a good team and have surprised a few this year. We've got to be at a good level to get a result,” Dean explained.
“I didn't play in the home game but we'll do our homework on them and try and put the same levels at Oakwell.”
