Dean Smith is taking it one game at a time as Brentford look to end the season in high spirits, but didn't rule out changing the system.

The Bees are now comfortable in mid-table and the squad are looking up for a top-10 finish, especially after picking up three wins in a row last week.

And Smith is keeping his feet firmly planted on the floor and is purely focused on Bristol City.

He said: “The lads keep talking about top 10. I'm just focused on Saturday and then Tuesday. That's all the target is.

“Lee Johnson has done a great job since he went in there. We want to build on the week we had last week.”

The remaining games see the chance for Smith to try out different formations and he has been working on these at the club's Jersey Road base.

He explained: “It's something we've got to work on and we have been working on it. If you can switch, it's a benefit.”

Opponent: Bristol City manager Lee Johnson

Bristol City have moved away from danger and are on the verge of being mathematically safe, meaning this game is essentially a dead rubber.

But Smith insisted that his squad should always be looking to impress people.

He added: “I think players are always playing for something. You're always looking to impress people. The only way they can get to the highest level is by not letting up.

“I'm expecting a hard-fought game. He'll drive his team on to win more football games. They won 4-1 at a strong Sheffield Wednesday team and they'll be going for it again.

“Lee Johnson has done a fantastic job. He did a really good job at Oldham. I hope I can emulate the result I got against him at Barnsley this season where we won 2-0.”
