Dean Smith believes Brentford are well on their way to achieving their target for the season after winning the past two games but insists the side must maintain their performance levels.

A 2-0 victory over play-off chasing Leeds in midweek and another over Bristol City on the weekend has seen the side take six points from six ahead of their trip to South Wales to face Cardiff.

Smith has set targets for his side between now and the end of the season and those wins have gone a long way to ensuring Brentford meet them as they face Cardiff City on Saturday.

And Smith knows Cardiff will pose a difficult challenge but insists Brentford can't take a "backwards step at the Cardiff City Stadium.

He said: "Before we go into the game you know what kind of game you're going into - Neil Warnock's teams are very difficult to beat and as you say, he's very organised and will have them up for every game.

"You have to be competitive, we cant take any backwards steps and we must be face on and hopefully the trickery and pace we have will win the game.

"We set small targets throughout the season and winning the last three games has certainly helped towards those targets that was recently set but they know they must maintain the performance levels - there are no easy games in this league.

"What we want to do is finish the season like we did last season, going into the game at Cardiff if we can get a performance like we did in the week then results should follow but we know we have a busy week the weekend after with the Easter weekend."
