EDGAR Davids says Barnet must learn to put the complete performance together if they are serious about winning promotion this season.

The Bees have put in a series of Jekyll and Hyde performances in recent weeks and can’t seem to maintain their concentration for the full 90 minutes.

A slow start followed by a sensational second-half showing at Aldershot Town typified this on Tuesday night as Davids’ side had to come from 3-1 down to claim a draw.

The Dutchman believes the disparity between the two halves can be traced to Barnet’s tactics, which are designed to wear teams down, but has called on his team to defend better as a unit.

He said: “When we play we break the opponents down. In the second-half they have to profit from that but in the first-half you can't concede.

“Defending starts up top and in the midfield, not directly in the back where people think, and you have to defend as a team. If you score goals that also has to come from the back as well.

“We took risks[against Aldershot]. It's always about the subs that give the impact. We are confident in them but they still have to show on the pitch and they did well."

Davids will be without star striker Jake Hyde for around three weeks and is expecting a tough game at Alfreton this weekend.

He added: “They go to be very physical and we have to be prepared.

“The team is confident – that isn't the problem – you can see that we can outplay every team. We have to do that for the whole 90 or 96 minutes though.”
