AFC Wimbledon fans had a moment of tactical genius to thank as Neal Ardley saw his men to a 2-1 victory against Crawley Town on Saturday.

After being behind at the break, the Dons manager switched his side's shape to a 4-4-2 formation from a 3-4-3, and reaped immediate dividends.

Adebayo Akinfenwa scored moments after the break before Andy Barcham's late strike saw the visitors emerge victorious from the clash.

And Ardley admitted he felt the Dons needed to change tact at half-time.

He said: "I don’t like being a one trick pony - we will work hard at different shapes because during the game if things aren’t working you have to be able to play a different way to get back into a game.

"Sometimes putting bodies in different areas is what changes a game, not just personnel.

"Good managers need to be able to do that so you can’t just switch to different formations and have players that don’t know how to play them."
