Connor Smith is the surprise name on AFC Wimbledon’s team sheet for today’s final.

The former Watford midfielder replaces Sean Rigg in the one change from the Dons side which drew 2-2 with Accrington 12 days ago to reach this magical day at Wembley.

It represents quite a comeback for Smith who was stretchered off in the final game of the regular season against Newport with what looked a serious neck injury.

The likelihood is Smith will slot into Riggs’ place on the right of midfield, though his inclusion does give Neal Ardley the option to just play three in the middle and throw Andy Barcham into a front three alongside 22-goal man Lyle Taylor and Tom Elliott.

Adebayo Akinfenwa, whose goal hauled Dons back into the semi-final takes a seat on the bench, where there is also a seat for Jon Meades whose season appeared to be over when he suffered ligament damage at Dagenham in April.

There’s no place though for semi-final first leg hero Tom Beere in the 18 as Ardley includes Adebayo Azeez and Rhys Murphy.

Plymouth for their part are unchanged from the side which saw off Portsmouth – also by an aggregate score of 3-2 in their semi-final.
