Chelsea's slow start to the season shouldn't worry Jose Mourinho too much, previous champions have come back from worse.

Three games into the 2007-08 season Manchester United found themselves in 16th place with just two points to their name.

Manchester City, on the other hand, were top with nine points from their opening three games.

By the end of the season though City found themselves in ninth, while United were crowned champions, finishing two points ahead of Chelsea.

It's the biggest turnaround from the opening three fixtures in the last 10 seasons.

In the following season (08-09), Sir Alex Ferguson's side were in the same position as Chelsea currently find themselves, with four points from three games and mid-table.

The Red Devils once again turned it round to win the title though. Chelsea finished third that year despite leading after three games.

Of course, it's not too surprising that teams can turn it round. After all, there are 105 still points to play for at the moment.

However, the side that was top or joint top after three games has gone on to win five of the last 10 Premier League campaigns.

There have also only been two occasions in the last 10 seasons where a team has gone on to win the league having had fewer than six points from their opening three games - the two detailed above.

Only once has the side that was top after three games finished outside of the top four - Manchester City in 07-08.
