Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown is determined to use his loan spell at Rotherham United to further his chances of playing at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old joined the Millers on a season long loan and made his debut in their 1-0 win over Brentford.

Brown had a golden opportunity to score when he raced clean through but Dan Bentley denied him a first goal for the Yorkshire side.

And his aims for the season are to improve as a player and show Antonio Conte that he is worth considering for the senior squad.

“I just want to play games and improve. In the future, I want to create more chances and score more goals,” he said.

“If you’re doing well in England then it’ll pass on through to Chelsea. I want to show I’m capable I can play for Chelsea.

“I don’t just want to play a few games here and there. I want to have a shirt number and play week in week out. It’s going to be difficult but I try my best.”

Kasey Palmer joins Huddersfield Town on loan from Chelsea

Chelsea have been criticised for their youth development policy but Brown doesn’t see it as much different from Manchester United and Arsenal as it is down to the player to earn a chance and then take it when it comes.

He added: “We know there are so many great players at Chelsea. You know it’s not going to be easy. It’s difficult for any player to come into Chelsea and big stars struggle.

“We know it’s going to be a fight but we’re ready fight to show we can play at Chelsea. I don’t think their emphasis is different to other clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal.

“Marcus Rashford has done really well. I played with him with England at U16. He took his chance.

“If a player gets a chance and doesn’t take it they can’t blame anyone else.

“If you get the chance at Chelsea and play well then you should keep your place in the squad and the team. It’s about taking a chance.”

Kolo Toure of Liverpool closes down Tammy Abraham of Chelsea

Chelsea have a number of players out on loan with Tammy Abraham impressing at Bristol City and Kasey Palmer at Huddersfield.

And Brown explained that they all wish each other well but, when the time comes to meet on the pitch, it will be a battle for pride.

He explained: “We’re all good friends off the pitch and keep in touch. We always say good luck to each other but when we play each other we need to win as there’ll be banter if we lose.

“We all talk and we’re all good friends – we keep in contact when we go to different teams.”
