John Swift's only goal is to keep impressing at Brentford and is not thinking about trying to buck the trend at Chelsea.

The Blues loanee impressed in Saturday's win over Rotherham and is with the Bees until the end of the month at the earliest.

And he is keen to impress head coach Lee Carsley and remain with Brentford for a longer period.

He said: “I think all the loan players think they can get into the team. We can't think about Chelsea.

“We've got to work on our game and win things with the team. I'm totally concentrating on Brentford and hopefully we can start climbing up the table.”

The midfielder added: “I'd love to stay but when it comes to the end of the month it's up to Chelsea or Brentford as to whether they want to keep me. I'm enjoying it and hopefully I'll be able to stay.”

Swift joined the club on October 1 in the wake of Marinus Dijkhuizen's sacking but he has been impressed with new head coach Carsley.

The Chelsea loanee added: “When I came in the manager had gone and I'd spoken to the players about it.

“We've got Lee Carsley now and he's doing a great job. Everyone is coming together. We've been working hard.

“He's great to work with. He's very welcoming. He knows what it's like to play in midfield. It's been a great experience. Hopefully I can push on.

“He's told me to use my talent. I think once I get on the ball and drive forward, I'm quite dangerous. If I can keep improving, he'll help me along the way. If I get more chances to do that I will.”

The 20-year-old feels welcome at Griffin Park already and is hoping to kick on after spells at Rotherham and Swindon last season.

He added: “I've been welcomed by the team and I got to spend more time with them and it showed on the pitch against Rotherham as everyone played well.

“Training has been quick. It's been hard to get up to the tempo. The team has been working hard in training and over the international break. I think we deserved the win.

“Rotherham was my first move and it was maybe a bit too early and their manager thought the same.

“Swindon was better. I got more time on the pitch and I got really far with them. Hopefully I can keep going.”
