Garry Monk and his side were humbled as Chelsea ran amok to win 5-0 - but the Swans boss wasn’t entirely surprised.

He said: “To stand any chance we had to right on point, but we were nowhere near it.

“Chelsea have done it to many sides this season, and I said before the start of the season they were favourites for the title, and I can’t see anything to disprove it.”

Blues were 4-0 up after 36 minutes having netted after a mere 49 seconds, but boss Jose Mourinho had a consoling word for the man in the opposite dug-out.

“There are matches that go away from our control and as managers we can’t do much,” added the manager.

“I can understand that he (Monk) was frustrated but the only thing I can say is that it’s better to lose one match 5-0 than to lose five games 5-0. I’m sure he will get a reaction from his team.”

“(The result) was very unexpected. We were solid and dangerous in counter attack and the choices made in dangerous positions were always the best choices. We hit the post twice and it could have been even more.”
