Chelsea have been warned there might be an FA Cup price to pay after defeat to Paris St Germain on Tuesday.

Statistics released this week show English teams suffer from European hangovers - but only very mild ones.

Sides from the English leagues have averaged the equivalent of 1.8 points per game in the two matches leading up to Champions League and Europa League ties since the start of the 2009-10 campaign.

That drops slightly to 1.7 per game in the matches directly following the European ties.

The averages do vary by competition though.

Teams competing in the Champions League have averaged the equivalent of 2.0 points per game before the tie and 1.9 per game after the tie. Those in the Europa league have gone from 1.6 per game leading up to their European match and 1.5 per game following it.

The hangovers do vary by team as well.

Chelsea have traditionally averaged 2.2 points per game leading up to European games and 2.1 per game in those games immediately afterwards - and they lost in Paris ahead of this weekend's Cup tie at home to Manchester City.

Liverpool have traditionally gone from a 1.6 points per game average to 1.5 per game, while Manchester United tend to go from 2.4 per game to 2.3 per game.
