Guus Hiddink has revealed Diego Costa has been rushed to hospital with a shin injury after limping out of Chelsea’s stalemate with Everton.

The striker started the Blues revival with a goal in the dramatic 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge before being forced off with the problem in west London.

Costa has scored five goals in five games under Hiddink and the Blues boss cannot afford to lose the striker to a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he’s already running short of options up front.

Hiddink said: “He’s in the hospital now for a scan but we don’t know the result.

“It’s on his shin. He was in a lot of pain but as soon as we know what is in the report we will put it out there.”

Hiddink confirmed that despite his lack of options, Chelsea were not in negotiations with any club over signing a new striker.

Chelsea came back from two goals down to draw level and survived another setback as Everton struck in the 90th minute before John Terry scored with virtually the last kick of the game.

Roberto Martinez was angered by the amount of stoppage time added on by the officials at the Bridge but Hiddink felt it was justified given the Toffees’ celebrations after what looked to be the winner.

Drama: John Terry of Chelsea celebrates scoring his team's third goal

Hiddink added: “I’m very happy with the spirit and the attitude of the team. The second half saw the speed go up and playing against Everton at 2-0 down is a tremendous setback.

“I was very happy to get to 2-2 and we got another setback at the end of the game but in the latest minutes we got the draw. Of course I’m not happy with the goals conceded but I’m happy with the attitude of the team.

“Sometimes it is going in our favour. Sometimes it is damaging. Why should I deny it [was offside for the goal]? I’ve seen it. Oscar touched the ball and John was offside, although he made a beautiful goal.

“It was in the 97th minute but they were celebrating their third goal in the corner so maybe he has to add an extra minute. I think it was fair.

“Given the fact that we were down, I think it is a point gained. We want to control the games but this is one of the best teams in the league. I think this is a very good momentum to go on for the rest of the season.”

Chelsea remain unbeaten under Hiddink but he won’t want too many more late shows like this if they are to make the top four.
