Firebrand Diego Costa sees no reason to change his playing style - unless Jose Mourinho or Chelsea instruct him to.

The Spanish international was hit with a three-match retrospective ban after clashing with Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny last month.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger labelled his behaviour ‘unacceptable’ and his on-the-field antics have drawn widespread criticism from pundits and opposing supporters.

However, Costa is only interested in pleasing his own club and is adamant he won’t be softening up just to silence the critics.

He said: “I have 100 per cent support from my manager, from the club and from the Chelsea fans.

“So other people, other opinions, I don’t care, I’m not really bothered. I will not change unless my manager or the people from my club or my supporters tell me so.

“No, I don't need to change. Because I have done nothing wrong. During my football career, many, many times other players have done stuff to me, like kick me but I am not a cry baby.

“So I think the supporters saw that was unfair and so the supporters, the manager and the club have given me a lot of support.”

Chelsea have long feared Costa’s growing reputation makes him a target for referees and his latest ban is the second time he has been punished retrospectively.

But the striker, who has been given a tailor-made training programme after reporting back overweight in the summer, insists he has no problem with officials in England.

He added: “I had never had any problems with officials. None of the bans that I have had, have been down to problems with officials.

"Sometimes I get booked. But that is part of the game it is just normal. I am just hoping that they see me differently now.

“But I think they are very professional and they will keep going the same way.”
