Players eligible for the England team are struggling to get much game time in the Premier League, especially at Chelsea.

Less than a third of minutes played in the top flight this season have been by English players who haven’t declared for other national teams.

For the Blues that proportion is just 14 per cent.

That’s the Premier League’s second worst record behind only Watford (9%).

Gary Cahill (630 minutes), John Terry (360 minutes) and Nathaniel Chalobah (one minute) are the club’s only English players to get a league game this season. Terry may be eligible but has retired from international football

International retirement: John Terry

In fact, Spanish players have had a bigger share of Chelsea’s game time this season (23%) than English players. That makes the Blues one of just five clubs to have given players of other nationalities the most game time. Arsenal (Spain, 27%), Manchester City (Argentina, 23%), Stoke (Ireland, 19%) and Watford (France, 13%) are the others.

Only three clubs have given more than half of their total game time to English players.

Bournemouth’s English contingent lead the way with 71 per cent of the Cherries’ minutes, while Burnley and Crystal Palace have given 53% of their minutes to English players.
