Asmir Begovic is relishing the opportunity to play Champions League football with Chelsea.

The Bosnian made the move from Stoke to Stamford Bridge in the summer and was the Blues’ best player in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City last month.

Jose Mourinho has a habit of rotating his goalkeeper in Champions League games and the Blues should qualify as winners from their group containing FC Porto, Dynamo Kiev and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

And Begovic will be chomping at the bit to get a chance in Europe’s premier club competition.

“It’s one of the competitions I haven’t played in in my career. To be a part of that will be great. I’m looking forward to and being part of this team,” he told GetWestLondon.

I'll applaud that: Chelsea's Asmir Begovic is shown respect from Manchester City's Sergio Aguero after making a save

“Hopefully we can do better than last year. If we can win two trophies like last year it’d be fantastic but a good run in the Champions League will be important for a club like this.”

Begovic will have a tough battle to oust Thibaut Courtois but his performances in competitive games show he can be trusted if required.

He said on the battle: “Thibaut is a world class goalkeeper. Training with these people every day makes you better as well.

“I’m enjoying the challenge of competing and playing with him every day. The rest of the staff, especially goalkeeping coach, Chris Lollichon, has been fantastic.

“I wanted to work with him and the manager (Mourinho) has been great as well. His messages have been clear throughout.”

He added: “My goal was to seek another challenge and come to one of the biggest clubs in the world. That goes for Thibaut.

“We want to win trophies and I want to test myself against the best. I’m enjoying the challenge and that was my main reason for coming here.”

Chelsea travel to Everton on Saturday in a bid to get back to winning ways after their shock home defeat to Crystal Palace.
