Jose Mourinho remained confident of keeping his job despite Liverpool inflicting a ninth defeat of the season on troubled Chelsea.

The Special One’s position is understood to be under threat following a disastrous start to the defence of the club’s Premier League crown.

Things took another turn for the worse on Saturday lunchtime at Stamford Bridge as Philippe Coutinho's brace and a late Christian Benteke strike cancelled out Ramires’ early opener.

Mourinho told reporters after the game that he believed he would be given time to turn things around but admitted the mood in the dressing room was dark in west London this afternoon.

He said: “I take comfort [in support from the fans] but what feeds me is not just the support of the fans.

“What feeds me is the recognition of our work and the recognition of our work is just by getting results.

“I have some really sad players in the dressing room and I’m full of respect for them.

“We see it match after match, as professionals, they’re not getting the respect they deserve.

“We, myself and them, are not going to have a great Saturday dinner, even families for sure they have the same feelings we have.

“I’m really sorry for that lack of respect.

“I go how. I find a sad family. I will try to watch some of the rugby and disconnect from some of this and then I will start preparing for the next training session.”

Mourinho’s opposite number, Jurgen Klopp, felt his Liverpool side got nothing more than they deserved in SW6 but admitted you always need a touch of good fortune to beat the champions.

He said: “We had not the best start in this game but we stayed in the game. We had our moments with short passes. They tried to make high pressure but we stayed in the space inbetween.

“We made a goal and deserved the draw at half time. Then we made more goals, two more perfect moments for us, you need a little bit of luck of course but I feel it was deserved.

“If you want to win in Chelsea you need a little luck. If you say to me it was a clear foul and a yellow card then we had the luck but I wasn’t sure.

“In life, like in football you have to make mistakes to learn from it. I don’t know the team long enough to imagine all of the reactions of my team in specific situations.

“In the Premier League you have to fight and solve your problems.”
