Frank Lampard has no doubts Jose Mourinho can ride out the storm at Chelsea.

Lampard today picked up an OBE in recognition of a career that spanned 20 years in England and saw him win a cluster of medals with Chelsea as well as pulling on the Three Lions shirt more than 100 times.

He remains the Premier League champions’ all-time leading goalscorer but is now plying his trade across the pond in New York after a season on loan at Manchester City.

Mourinho considered Lampard one of his untouchables during his first stint at Stamford Bridge and remains a close friend of the former West Ham midfielder despite allowing him to leave west London.

Things have gone downhill rapidly at Chelsea under the Special One this term though and speculation is mounting that defeat to Liverpool on Saturday could spell the end for the Portuguese manager.

But despite a disastrous start to the campaign that has seen the Blues slip to 15th in the standings, Lampard remains convinced his old boss is the right man to return the club to the top.

Lampard said: "It's a hot topic because you don't expect Chelsea to lose games like they've been losing recently.

"These periods do happen, I've been involved in them before and the thing that matters is coming out of them the other side.

"With Jose Mourinho in charge, the squad they've got, the talent they've got on the pitch and the club that Chelsea is now - I don't see anyway that they won't turn it around."

Lampard received his OBE from Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace and was joined by fiance Christine Bleakley.

Lampard added: "As a personal achievement goes, this ranks up there with my achievements on the pitch and what I won with Chelsea, and playing for my country.

"But to receive an award like this among some very special people here, military, people who are doing a lot of good work in charity, it's very humbling to be here."

Lampard captained Chelsea to a Champions League final victory in 2012 and with the club won four FA Cup winners medals and three Premier League title medals.
