CHELSEA’S long pursuit of Champions League glory continues against Napoli tonight but skipper John Terry insists the club are not cursed in the competition despite several near misses.

Europe’s top club competition has become the Holy Grail at Chelsea since Roman Abramovich took over at the helm nine years ago with the club coming closest to the crown in 2008.

Terry missed a crucial penalty in the final against Manchester United on that rainy night in Moscow and the captain has had to endure heartbreak in the tournament on several occasions as well.

But the influential centre-back is refusing to let the disappointments of years gone by affect the team tomorrow night as the Blues look to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the previous leg in Naples.

He said: “I don’t think we feel cursed. I think we’ve been unfortunate in previous big nights here. I think you need a quality team to win this competition, added with a little bit of luck that perhaps we’ve not had. One thing we have still got is that quality.

“We've gained a lot of experience over the years. The one thing that does stay with me is the disappointment from those nights - the ties against Monaco [in 2004], against Barcelona [in 2009] and in the 2008 final in Moscow.

“If it all goes well it could go down as one of the biggest nights in Chelsea’s history.  It's the one trophy missing from our cabinet. I've got a few years in me yet, and I really hope I can bring this trophy to the Bridge."

However the history books suggest it will be a tall order for Chelsea to progress, having failed to win any of their last five Champions League knockout matches on home turf.
