Guus Hiddink believes that it is all well and good for Chelsea to be winning the FA Youth Cup and the UEFA Youth League but it would be more of a triumph for those players to progress into the first team.

The Dutchman handed a debut to Tammy Abraham at Anfield on Wednesday and has given regular game time to both Bertrand Traore and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

And he is considering handing more youngsters a chance when the Blues face champions Leicester on the final day of the season.

When asked if more academy players could play on Sunday, Hiddink replied: “The academy is delivering the players like (Bertrand) Traore. He's been with us for a long time.

Scoring goals for Chelsea: Bertrand Traore

“There are some players training with us and I like to see more of them. For me, when Chelsea are playing championships for U18, U19, U20, U21, it's nice to have won these cups but it's even better when those guys are having their training session with us.

“We can review how we approach the future. Traore was just like a calf who was still waggling a bit and now he's getting used to mens football.

“Tammy is already shown he can learn very fast. As soon as possible, they must step up. It's not easy.

“First, you must have the experience with mens football. You can give a lot of youngsters their debut but don't go over the top because it's not easy to make the last step and the players would be exposed by not yet having the quality or the capacity or the substance to do so.”
