Chelsea fired a brutal warning to their rivals as they took control of the title race.

Didier Drogba weighed in with his fifth goal of the season as Chelsea saw off Spurs with ease and maintained their 24-year old Stamford Bridge hoodoo on Tottenham.

It all left Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho purring at his side’s dominance.

He said: “We played against a very good team and they showed that during some periods in the game.

“They started better than us and should have scored before us, but after our first goal our team became more stable and confident and we controlled the game.

"I’m really happy with the points, performance and spirit of the players. It’s too heavy a result, though, for Tottenham.”

Mourinho also admitted that he will soon begin to rotate his side, having maintained the same system for much of the season so far.

“When they need a rest, they are able to answer," he added.

"December is a difficult month and it’s almost impossible for players to play every game this month - certainly later in the month I have to change some players.

“Of course, Diego Costa is already rested and now Nemanja Matic is suspended for one game so he will be rested.”
