Jose Mourinho has praised Juan Mata for his reaction in training to the suggestion Chelsea might be willing to part with him.

The Spaniard cut an angry figure when he was removed from the fray at St Mary's on New Year's Day.

The Chelsea boss subsequently said his 'door was always open' if they player wanted to initiate a move away from the club.

But the midfielder, beloved of Chelsea fans in recent seasons but seemingly not central to the Mourinho blueprint, has not been in to see the boss to discuss his future.

“Has Mata been to see me? No and today he trained in a fantastic way, so no problems,” said Mourinho.

“He focused more in what I said after the game at Southampton - that I don't want him to leave, that I don't want the club to sell him.

“He was focused on that and not focused on what I said about my door being always open.

“Would I be happy for him to go to another Premier League team? No, I can say that I want him to stay and there isn't any offer from other clubs.”
