Jose Mourinho insists he has no issue with Juan Mata despite the Manchester United playmaker claiming he had no relationship with his former Chelsea boss.

The Special One sanctioned the £37million sale of the Spaniard to the Red Devils in January after deciding to pursue other attacking options at Stamford Bridge.

Mata cut a frustrated figure in the final weeks of his Blues career and this week told reporters he had no relationship with Mourinho.

“For better or for worse, we had no relationship, there was no dialogue,” Mata told El Pais. “I was not happy, but always gave the most respected and my colleagues. You never know what will happen in life.”

However, Mourinho didn’t react when the claim was put to him at his press conference and compared the situation to that of Samuel Eto’o, who moved to Everton in the summer.

"For me Juan is a very good player and I look at him as a very good player,” Mourinho said.

"I don't look at him as a special player because of certain circumstances. Because if I did there would have been 20, 30, 40 players who we sold or decided to leave. It happens.

"For me it's not a problem. He's a very good player and very good players are dangerous. A few weeks ago when we played Everton and Samuel Eto'o it was the same.

"There was lots of talk. He scored his goal. We did our job. The relationship is good. I look at Juan as a very good player, no problem."
