Jose Mourinho says last minute wins like Chelsea's over Everton make league champions.

Blues left it late in a game the mostly dominated at home to the Toffees, but maintained their seven-point cushion over Manchester City thanks to an 89th minute Willian strike.

Mourinho said: “I don't remember a team that would be champions without a couple of victories in the last minute.

“In my case for sure. Every time we won a title we had a couple of victories in the last minute.”

Blues other saviour on the night was Petr Cech – who made a remarkable reactionary save from former Blue Romelu Lukaku.

Mourinho said: “He catch the ball twice and he was a spectator.

Mine! Petr Cech saves from Everton's Romelu Lukaku

“But in the first half is a very good save, and in the second half it is a super save.

“With (Thibaut) Courtois and Petr – it is so important a goalkeeper can make a difference.

Asked why he gave Cech the nod over the young Belgian, the Blues' boss said: “Courtois played consecutive matches – Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa.

“A goalkeeper has to be very focussed. I think a goalkeeper can also be tired. The fatigue is not just physical but it is also the nervous system.”
