ROBERTO Di Matteo says he has no worries about upsetting friends among the playing staff at Chelsea now he's become the boss – because he doesn't have any!

The new Blues coach is keen to play down any perceived obstacles to him doing a good job at Stamford Bridge as stand-in coach following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

“I think friends is a big word in life. I'm not sure how many friends you have, but I don't have any actually,” said the Italian, only half-jokingly.

“People come up to me and they say: 'I met a friend of yours,' and I say: 'Look, to be clear, anybody who says they are friend of mine is lying, because I don't have any friends.

“I've had a few experiences in my life and [this outlook] is realistic. Yes, it does take a lot to be my friend. It's not been football, it's been life experiences.

“When I broke my leg, it was a bad time in my life, but it was a good learning period for me to understand how relationships work between people. It worked well, because I understood a lot of things.”

Asked about the pressure he will have to deal with as Chelsea boss, Di Matteo said: “I think I will still get up in the morning and have a coffee – have my lunch and my dinners and just get on with my life and do the job as well as I can.

“The pressure's always there and if you can't handle it or you don't want it, you are not going to be in this job.

“There's a lot of speculation and it's not for me to comment on what's going to happen in the future.

For me, it's very simple. I know what my task is. I have to win a game against Stoke City and the club will make the appropriate decisions when the time is right.”
