No sooner has been installed than bets are invited on how long Antonio Conte will last as Chelsea manager.

The short answer is the third boss this season, temporary or permanent, will be shown the door inside the next two seasons, according to leading spread betting company Sporting Index.

The current Italy manager has just signed a three-year deal to join the Blues after this summer’s European Championship, but traders at Sporting Index predict he will take charge of only 74 Premier League matches during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Ed Fulton, trading spokesman for Sporting Index, said: “Antonio Conte’s in-tray at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground will be bursting by the time he arrives after Euro 2016.

“Conte certainly has the pedigree required for the Premier League, but rebuilding Chelsea into a title winning side will be easier said than done.

“He’ll need to hit the ground running or the pressure will build quickly.

"Chelsea haven’t got the greatest track record when it comes to sticking by their managers, and Sporting Index reckon that, despite him signing a three-year contract, Conte won’t last two seasons.”

The principle of spread betting is that the punter is invited to challenge a prediction made by Sporting Index by betting higher (buying) or betting lower (selling) on that prediction. Profits or losses are calculated on how right or wrong you are with the outcome.
