Antonio Conte will find the right formation to suit his Chelsea players rather than try to fit square pegs into round holes.

The Blues boss employed a 5-3-2 system to great effect during Euro 2016, as his Italy side saw off holders Spain on their way to the semis.

But Conte insists that does not necessarily mean he will plump for the same formation with Chelsea, and that he has chopped and changed set-ups throughout his managerial career.

He said: “In my past I played with three defenders, but it is important for a manager and coach to understand what is right for the team.

Food for thought: Antonio Conte

“I remember my first experience with Bari and Siena, I played 4-2-4, and when I arrived at Juventus I started with 4-2-4, then changed to 4-3-3, then changed to a front two.

“Also, with the national team, my experience, over two years, changed the system to find the right solution during the Euros.

“The most important thing is to get to know the players, then find the right solution. In the future, it could happen that I could change. I hope to find very quickly the right fit.”

Chelsea get their new Premier League season under way against West Ham United tomorrow.
