Hayes & Yeading bosses believe next season’s reduced outlay on groundsharing fees could be the key to the club returning home.

United have confirmed that this will be their last season at Woking’s Kingfield, after signing a deal to play at Maidenhead’s York Road during the 2014-15 campaign.

The Football Conference insists on an agreement for the whole campaign being in place, although Hayes & Yeading can move out as soon as their Beaconsfield Road venue has been granted the relevant ground-grading and safety certificates.

Work is set to resume at the ground later this week following the removal of steel props, which have been supporting the floor temporarily, as United look to start kitting out the interior of the main building.

Chairman Tony O’Driscoll has negotiated the new groundsharing deal with the Magpies and has revealed the arrangement is a better financial option than an extended stay in Surrey, which will in turn speed up the construction in Hayes.

He said: “It saves everybody time and money and will be a huge advantage to the football club. It will save us a considerable amount each week and that will go back towards building the ground, which is a huge plus for us.

“How quickly we can get the building done depends largely on how the next few weeks go. We are trying to put deals in place to bring in money and then we will know how much we can generate and how quickly.

“The supporters ask us what’s happening. There is no money in the club – that’s what I tell them. We’ve got to try and generate the money to get us back in there. There’s enough money to pay the players until the end of the season, which is important, but anything else we get is going to be ploughed back into the ground.”

O’Driscoll’s position as chairman is yet to be ratified by Companies House.

However, the United stalwart says it is only a matter of time before that happens as he begins the process of formalising the change after a spell out of the country for work.

“People say you can’t be chairman without being a director,” added O’Driscoll. “It’s just a case of us now informing Companies House of the new directors though and it’s only a piece of paper really.

“I’ve been away for seven weeks on business so it’s been difficult, but hopefully I can sit down with the relevant people this week and sort it out. I need to have a meeting to put that right. Hopefully, we will be able to announce all of the new directors in the next few weeks.”

Hayes & Yeading drew 0-0 with promotion-hopefuls Sutton on Tuesday evening.
