Brentford made it three wins in a row with yesterday's 3-0 victory over Charlton at The Valley, which ultimately cost Addicks boss Guy Luzon his job. But what did we learn from the performance, which sees the Bees head into next Friday's west London derby against QPR full of confidence?

Mac attack

Alan McCormack had probably his best display in a Brentford shirt since the Bees were in League One. The Irishman was unfortunate last season when a nasty injury up at Bolton saw Moses Odubajo moved to right back and never look back, and when Mac returned he had to make do with being a bench-warmer. Odubajo's summer exit to Hull saw McCormack return to right back, and in truth, he has never looked as comfortable there in the Championship, but a move back into the middle has seen him enjoy a renaissance. Being given the freedom to play a more attacking role has also unleashed another dimension to Mac's game.

Midfield maestros

McCormack was not the only midfielder to shine at The Valley, with Toumani Diagouraga and Ryan Woods both in excellent form too. Their mopping up in front of the back four and ability to start attacks allowed Alan Judge and Jonathan Swift, and even McCormack, to get up in support of Marco Djuricin and not worry too much about what was happening at the other end. Much has been made about the wealth of talent Brentford are waiting to welcome back from the treatment table over the next few months, but it's difficult to see the likes of Lewis Macleod and Josh McEachran breaking up this midfield trio at the moment.

Man of the Match

For all that, however, the plaudits must go to Alan Judge for best player on the pitch. An inch perfect cross Jonathan Swift for the first goal, a brilliant finish for the second and a superb cross-field ball to put in Lasse Vibe for the third. It's been well publicised that Judge is attracting interest from from top flight clubs, and Brentford can only hope they can persuade him that his best way of making it there is with them. Brentford were crying out for Judge to be their talisman in the first few months of the season, and whereas we saw it fleetingly, we are now seeing it week in week out, and the Bees' turnaround in form has been, in a large part, down to him.

Moment of the match

Brentford defender Alan McCormack

So many to choose from. Judge's peach of a cross for the first goal and sublime ball across the pitch for the third, not to mention a fine finish for the second. Then there was the time that Diagouraga broke up play in front of his own back four and beat a couple of Charlton players before starting an attack with a lovely pass. Not to forget the neat passage of passing lasting a minute or so in the first half, with the game far from won, which drew cries of 'ole' from the visiting fans and boos of frustration from the home fans. But top of the pile has to be McCormack's pile driver, which would have been an early goal of the season contender had it been an inch or so lower.

Watch out Rangers!

One of the most painful aspects of Brentford's performances before these past seven games was the knowledge that west London rivals QPR were waiting in the wings and would delight in hammering another nail in the Bees' coffin next Friday. However, with three wins in a row under their belt, they will go into the derby full of confidence and self belief. With Rangers finding a bit of form themselves yesterday, it's bound to be a belter.
