Three trips in particular stand out for AFC Wimbledon’s Jon Meades following the release of the League One fixtures list.

Dons will play at their highest level yet in 2016-17 following their League Two playoff win over Plymouth last month – a win which secured their sixth promotion in the 13 years since forming as a fan-owned club in 2002.

Top of left-back Meades’ trips to be relished is the one to the Valley to face Charlton (September 17) while a visit to another of last year’s relegated Championship sides Bolton will have to wait until March 4.

Then of course there is the journey many Wombles’ fans are unwilling to make to MK Dons (December 10), the team formed as a result of Wimbledon’s relocation to Milton Keynes in 2003.

“I’m really looking forward to playing League One,” he said.

“The first thing that comes to mind is playing Charlton at The Valley.

Choice one: The Valley
Pick two: The Macron
Setting three: Stadium MK

"I’ve been there and played in the cup and they are a massive club with a really good stadium. I can’t wait to go there.

“Then there’s Bolton – I used to watch them in the Premiership when I was a young boy. Jay-Jay Okocha I used to love him, now we are playing them, so that’s just amazing.

“Then there is the team we don’t talk about (MK Dons) and I can’t wait to go there either. It will be a great occasion for us to go and see if we can do a job on them.”

Meades and Co will start their League One adventure with a trip to Walsall on Saturday, August 6, before back-to-back home fixtures with Bolton (August 13) and Scunthorpe United (August 16), the latter a Tuesday evening game with a 7:45pm kick-off.
