Chelsea's Champions League qualification for next season is all but assured, according to the boss.

Jose Mourinho believes the 4-0 win against Spurs has left the chasers with too much to do to deny the Blues a top four finish at the very least.

“The top four is for us to lose, because now it is 13 points from Tottenham, and I think 15 or 16 from Man U and Everton,” said the Chelsea boss.

“This game could reduce the distance to the fifth to seven points with nine matches – but at this moment, 13 points, I really don't believe we are going to lose that distance.

"So, objective number one, the top four, is in our pocket, unless we lose it.

“Now let's go for objective number two which is top three, which gives Champions League direct qualification.”

In spite of the seven point lead at the top of the table, Mourinho says he is still bothered by the fact the destiny of the race is not yet in his team's hands.

“If we win nine matches, maybe we are not champions,” he said. “If Man City win the 12 matches they have, they are champions.

“They have their destiny in their own hands and we don't have ours. I would prefer to have it in my hands.”
