Lee Carsley will return to work with Brentford's development squad and will assist Kevin O'Connor.

The former midfielder was head coach of the youth side before being drafted in to take charge of the first team for the past eight weeks with the Bees legend stepping up.

However, his first priority is to help the club's new head coach, believed to be Pep Clotet, settle into the new role.

Carsley explained: “The handover will take place next week. Hopefully we'll go from strength to strength. I've not met the new man yet.

“I'm going to be hanging around. I think it's important I help with the handover and make sure I'm there for any advice or help.

“It's important I take a massive step backwards as the new man needs that space as leader. We'll support him as much as we can.

“I'll be assisting Kev in the development squad. I'm happy about that. That's my job. It's not going to be weird being number two. If I wanted to hog the limelight. I'm looking forward to it.”
